Process is an exciting part of Priest’s artistic discovery. She begins with photography, an art form that she loves. Her goal is to capture not only a moment in time, but also to capture a lifetime in a moment.
The photos are the starting point for artistic discovery. Altering color and composition, adding to and taking away from the images accentuates direction and visual dialogue. Once the preliminary decisions are made then begins the process of paper tole.
As shown in the video below, the process of reduction within the imagery begins. Cutting, shaping and layering occur over and over again with the final outcome creating depth through layers, that invite the viewer in.
Priest creates a visually tactile image that draws the viewer through and around the piece. Positioning the layers just a bit askew suggests movement through and past a moment in time into the essence of a lifetime.
